The Venezuelan artist, Victor Hugo, produced window dressings for the fashion designer Halston. His artworks were witty, anarchic and over the top, although Bob recalled that at the time "they were going nowhere. He signed rat traps and handed them out at parties; he dipped chickens feet in red paint and called their footprints drawings" (Holy Terror, p.456). For Bob, this present lot was an unusual, more modest example of his work, although still imbued with Hugo’s indomitable humor.

About Victor Hugo

View Profile »

Victor Hugo (Venezuelan, c.1950-1993) was an artist, designer, window dresser and lover of the fashion designer Halston. He was an intimate member of Warhol’s circle. In Holy Terror, Bob Colacello notes that Hugo was sometimes a model for Andy’s Torsos series and the "pisser on the Oxidations series." Victor’s loft in SoHo became the site of Andy’s "Polaroid sex session" where Warhol photographed group orgies (Holy Terror, p.458).
