Tammy Rae Carland utilizes photography, experimental video, and sculpture to explore questions of memory, affect, and objecthood. Her complex pieces assemble an emotive archive that bridges the artist’s personal experience with the public domain. Carland’s work has been exhibited in galleries and museums nationally and internationally, including venues in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Berlin, and Sydney. In 2011 she was featured in the 12th Istanbul Biennial and most recently she had a solo exhibition, “Live From Somewhere," at Jessica Silverman Gallery in San Francisco. Carland is the Photography Chair at the California College of the Arts in Oakland. She received her MFA from University of California, Irvine, and also attended the Whitney Independent Studies Program in New York.
