Fascinated with celebrity culture in a deeply Warholian sense, Russell Young appropriates icons from mass culture and retools them within a high art framework. In "Marilyn Crying" he captures the glamorous starlet in a moment of distress, iconizing the turbulent, troubled side of Monroe's mythic beauty.
