About Rachel HarrisonView Profile »
The work of Rachel Harrison (American, b. 1966) draws from a wide range of influence, wittily combining art historical and pop cultural references through a diverse play of materials. Using visual language as a subversive tool, Harrison parodies expected comparison to artists such as Franz West and Paul McCarthy, appropriating styles and motifs with subtle knowingness, wielding artistic process as a mode of investigation. She received her BFA from Wesleyan University in 1989, and beginning in the early 1990s, Harrison developed an eclectic sculptural language in which abstract forms are juxtaposed with seemingly ignoble materials (jars of honey, aluminum cans) and peppered with pop cultural references. The resulting works, which mix the seemingly incommensurate languages of Minimalism and Pop, are powerful both as three-dimensional structures and as assemblages of two-dimensional imagery.Interested in consigning works by Rachel Harrison?
