Luoma draws inspiration from mathematics, geometry, repetition, systems and chance as well as from the nature of sound, which shares many similarities with light as a material. “I am constantly fascinated by the fact that the process of thousands of exposures on a single negative leaves nothing behind – no debris, no ruin – but an exposed negative presenting the ideas of perception of space”. The work addresses Cézanne’s idea of early Cubism, of three geometric solids creating an encounter with the concept of collapse. The geometric ideas of three dimensions collide with the ideas of perception of space as a printed image and as a surface, reworked and reconsidered by using a systematic sequence of exposures and chance.
