View Profile »

Lmnopi is an artist / activist currently residing in Brooklyn, NYC. Her work has spanned three decades and many different mediums. She has been making work under the nameLmnopi for the last 6 years. Originally trained in oil painting and printmaking, she has taken those skills and applied them to her current practice of making work for the streets.

Lmnopi is making socially engaged paintings for the public arena which connect to a long tradition of artists who view art not as the privilege of the rich and educated but as the right of everybody and a powerful tool for social and cultural change. Lmnopi’s painting practice is rooted in activism and serves to amplify messages which emerge from current struggles for racial, economic and environmental justice.

Lmnopi became known for her Protest Art in part through Occupy Wall Street. She has created viral memes for the Anti-Fracking movement & the fight against Tar Sands Mining in Canada and the US and in solidarity with the fight for Indigenous Sovereignty. Her street art can be seen in random doorways, on walls in the streets of NYC, SF, Montreal, Kingston, Port Au Prince, Oakland, Eugene, Santa Cruz and Mexico.
