About Lari Pittman

View Profile »

Lari Pittman (American, b. 1952) received his MFA from CalArts in 1976. Inspired by a variety of historical decorative references as well as commercial advertising and personal experience, Pittman creates a riot of imagery in his prints and paintings. From Victorian silhouettes to pop culture references, Pittman’s compositions, often seemingly whimsical, include dark, mysterious, and thought-provoking imagery. Pittman was honored with a retrospective exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 1996 and he participated in the 2003 Venice Biennale. His work was also included in three Whitney Biennial exhibitions.
