About Julio Le Parc

Julio Le Parc (Argentinian, b. 1928) is an artist living and working in Paris. Le Parc is most commonly known for his pioneering work in “Op” (optical) art. While attending the School of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires, he became interested in the Spazialismo movement. He went to Paris in 1958 on a French government scholarship and in 1959, began creating geometrical abstract paintings based on predetermined systems. In 1960 Le Parc created his first “Continual Mobiles,” carrying his research into three dimensions, and introducing movement and light. He was awarded the main painting prize at the 1966 Venice Biennale.
