Active since the mid-1970s, Joyce Pensato is a painter living and working in Brooklyn, NY. Often drawing from the lexicon of top-shelf cartoon characters, Pensato bloats, skews, and abstracts well-known and -loved icons such as Daffy, Batman, and Homer Simpson to transform them into something ominous and startling. To see her representations of these positively ingrained animated idols is to have the playful veneer chipped away and a lurking darkness exposed.
