Jill Newman is a visual artist working both individually and collaboratively. In many paintings and drawings, she records provisional structures and mythic characters, often conflating theatricality, politics, and abstraction. She received her MFA from CalArts and her BS from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and has shown extensively across the United States. She is currently the Visiting Assistant Professor in Painting and Drawing at the University of California, Riverside. In representational works, she paints ephemeral structures including theater sets like this work.
