These fire paintings, hunt at eye level, are mostly horizontally long and vertically short as if seen from a military pillbox with shooting slit windows. Seeing all the fires of the last year on the television, Jessie Homer French felt as though she was in that pillbox watching the world burn.

View Profile »

Jessie Homer French is a regional narrative painter. When she move to a new region her narratives change. “In the beginning my internal landscape was upstate New York. Then to California and the Sierras, Vancouver Island and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Now Oregon and the Coachella Valley. And, of course, the constants, fish, fire, water, air, land and death.”
