About Jenn AckermanView Profile »
Jenn Ackerman (b. 1980) is an American photographer based in Minneapolis. Her work has been described as colorful, genuine and soulful by editors, art directors and curators around the country. Through portraiture and long-term documentary projects, she explores communities in America that fascinate her and likes to work in intimate settings. “Her intention is to peel back the veneer, revealing unguarded emotions, irony and incongruity without betraying her subjects,” (PDN).
Jenn was named a McKnight Fellow and to PDN’s 30 Photographers to Watch in 2012. Together with her husband, Tim Gruber, she works for editorial and advertising clients including People, National Geographic, ESPN the Magazine, The New York Times, TIME, and Field & Stream. Her work has been recognized by American Photography, PDN Photo Annual, the Inge Morath Award, Review Santa Fe/CENTER, Magnum Expression Award, the Honickman First Book Prize, Communication Arts Photography Annual and others. One of her projects, Trapped, was named Non-Traditional Photojournalism Publishing Project of the Year and the project’s short film won an Emmy.
