About Irving PennView Profile »
Irving Penn (American, 1917-2009) is one of the most significant fashion, portrait and still life photographers of the past seven decades. Penn studied at the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art under Alexey Brodovitch while also working with him at Harper’s Bazaar. In 1943, he shot his first Vogue cover, eventually landing major advertising campaigns and a steady stream of high-profile editorials. Penn was one of the first fashion photographers to pose subjects against a simple grey or white backdrop, a technique that is still influential. He published 11 books and retrospectives of his work have been held at major institutions such The Museum of Modern Art, New York and the Art Institute of Chicago.Interested in consigning works by Irving Penn?
