Gastón Ugalde is a Bolivian artist who studied at Universidad Mayor de San Andrés in La Paz, Bolivia, Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, Canada, and at the Vancouver School of Art in Vancouver, Canada. He has had several gallery and museum exhibitions, including at the Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach, California, the Smithsonian’s American Indian Museum in Washington, DC, Saatchi Gallery in London, and the Venice Biennale in both 2009 and 2001. He was the recipient of the prestigious Konex award with noted Brazilian architect Oscar Niemayer in 2002, and has been called "the most important living Bolivian artist" by the Konex Foundation in Argentina.
