David Hockney (English, b. 1937) is a painter, draughtsman, printmaker, stage designer, and photographer. Following a visit to California, where the artist subsequently lived, Hockney began a series of paintings involving pool scenes, for which he is commonly known, and rendered realistically within a vibrant palette. An important contributor to the Pop art movement of the 1960s, he is considered one of the most influential British artists of the 20th century. Hockney attended the Royal College of Art.
