About Daniel Aksten

View Profile »

Daniel Aksten’s work is an investigation into painting as a representation of experience, of philosophy in action, and as a phenomenological object. Aksten’s belief is that there is a metaphysical structure underlying the physicality of the object, that the physicality of the object is an expression of that structure, that all art-- from the cynical to the spiritual -- is united by this structure, and that every form is an expression of the variations of this structure. Aksten’s belief is that beauty and our capacity to experience joy are examples of the experience of this structure. Following his college years, during which he discovered Kafka and James Joyce, Aksten initially intended to pursue writing but discovered he could use visual art to explore his ideas in philosophy.
