Fanta was specifically created for the BFAMI auction. The painting like most of Lewis’ work is done from the memory of a scene he witnessed near his home and studio in East London. In this case a McDonald’s restaurant in the middle of the night. Fanta pays homage to the stone carved sculpture Family Group 1954 by sculptor Henry Moore, a work Lewis would have seen regularly growing up as a child in Essex. Fanta questions the role of the traditional family group in today’s society.
