Description

Christian Marclay’s work regularly explores the relationship between sound and image. Here, he makes use of the typical exclamations, such as “Sllurp!,” as seen in comics. However, the amalgamation of these linguistic sounds, as collaged and arranged in relation to each other, attest to the aural capacity of language of which lack of sound is just as poignant as its implication. To create this unique work, Marclay personally screenprinted several images atop of each other and then added hand-painted elements.

Christian Marclay was represented in the 54th Venice Biennale (2011).

About Christian Marclay

View Profile »

London-based artist Christian Marclay (b. 1955) focuses his artistic practice on the visualization of sound, transforming an auditory experience into physical form through a variety of media (including collage, sculpture, and video). He is most well-known for his virtuosic 24-hour film entitled The Clock (2010), which splices moments from Hollywood films into a cinematic collage that rhythmically sequences through varied tropes, characters, and emotions and as the seconds tick onward. His work has been featured at many of the world’s leading museums, including the Tate Modern, Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Art Museum, and the Walker Art Center.
