About Carrie HottView Profile »
Carrie Hott was born in Fort Collins, Colorado and from the age of 5 grew up in the suburbs of Phoenix, Arizona. She is an interdisciplinary artist who currently lives and works in Oakland, California. A lifelong interest in history and the symbolic power of objects informs her work, which entails a variety of media including painting, drawing, installation, and printmaking. Through her practice, Hott works to find origins, connect tangents, and locate invisible histories. Current preoccupations include the study of the development of artificial light and multiple forms of blackouts, topics reached by way of a long term investigation into whales. In addition to her material practice, she regularly completes related projects that include mixed media presentations, classes, tours, and various collaborative endeavors. In 2009, with artist Elizabeth Bernstein, Carrie Hott co-founded the Royal NoneSuch Gallery, in Oakland, CA, an alternative art and community event space. In 2013, she co-founded a long-distance collaborative space in Queens, NY with 7 artists called Ortega y Gasset Projects.Interested in consigning works by Carrie Hott? Learn more »
