About Anja Niemi

View Profile »

Anja Niemi (Norwegian, b. 1976) is a contemporary photographer who studied at the London College of Printing and Parsons School of Design in Paris and New York. Niemi describes herself as a ‘one man band’ as she always works alone, even while staging works with multiple subjects. Niemi immerses herself with the locales in which she works, in doing so, her photographs portray an intimate narrative with universal overtones that possess an eerie, unreal quality. Niemi’s elegantly staged photographs, that combine tragedy and humor, portray a mystifying world that entices the viewer to question every aspect and explore every detail. Her inspiration is intuitive but also comes from movies and dance performances.
