The present photograph comes from the artist’s series entitled ‘RITE,’ described as a visual exploration of the fragility of masculinity through the use of portraiture. The artist’s choice in titling his series comes from the concept of rites of passage, or ritualistic experiences marking one’s transition from one stage in life to another. Søndergaard’s portraits feel on the one hand ominous and melancholy, yet ethereal and beautifully delicate.
