About Greg Gorman

Greg Gorman (American, b. 1949) is a portrait photographer based in California. He graduated from University of Southern California with a Masters of Fine Arts degree in cinematography in 1972. Known for his intensely evocative photographs, Gorman develops portraits that see through movement, emotion, and sensation. “For me a photograph is most successful when it doesn’t answer all the questions,” says Gorman, “but leaves something to the imagination.” He is a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Professional Photographer’s of America, the Achievement in Portraiture Award from the Lucie Foundation, and the Pacific Design Center Stars of Design award.
