Online Auction Backstage Pass: David Bowie Brings Together Photographs, Artworks, and Rare Memorabilia
New York, January 30, 2016 — Today Paddle8, the leading online auction house, is launches a sale in honor of David Bowie’s life and career, Backstage Pass: David Bowie with live bidding January 30, 12pm EST - February 14, 1pm EST. The 60-lot sale is highlighted by rare and unique career memorabilia, including full handwritten song lyrics for “The Jean Genie,” and an extraordinary seven-track 12” acetate from 1971, with a label hand-printed by Bowie himself and featuring songs from the Hunky Dory recording sessions.
Backstage Pass: David Bowie also celebrates the visual style of Bowie with a wide selection of editioned photographs by Mick Rock, Lynn Goldsmith, Masayoshi Sukita, and others. Photographer Tom Kelley, who shot the cover of ChangesOneBowie, has produced a stunning new uncropped full-image print of the cover which is being made available to the public for the first time via this sale.
The front and back covers of Bowie’s landmark Ziggy Stardust LP have been reproduced in new lithographs by Terry Pastor, and a rare, original seriograph from the Tarot Card series painted by Bowie in 1975 and given as a Christmas gift to friends is also available in the sale. Two large mixed-media works produced in a collaboration by Mick Rock and Russell Young in 2007 present a contemporary approach to the enduring visual appeal of Bowie.
