"Cerith's work always evokes associations of loss and potential, of something almost present but not quite visible - like a ghost in the room. There is a beautiful absence even amongst all the glass and lights and bling of his works. Elective Affinity's apparent simplicity is in fact balancing the weight of its place in the particular art history of 'text works in neon', its philosophical context. Originally it was shown installed between two potted plants, a nod to understatement. Everything is exposed (the wires, the pots for the plants) and yet nothing is really revealed."
