Paddle8 is excited to offer a special project from Nancy Gonzalez whose bags provide the canvas on which participating artists including Lawrence Weiner, Jim Hodges and Jenny Holzer have offered their own interpretations.
Nancy Gonzalez, a Colombian designer and entrepreneur, creates handbags that first debuted in 1998 at Bergdorf Goodman. Since then, her classic shapes and exotic materials have earned her international acclaim.
This unique partnership with TWOxTWO is a joint fundraiser for amfAR and the Dallas Museum of Art. Ten unique bags were created and personalized by ten world-renowned artists as their version of Nancy Gonzalez’s signature crocodile “Leaf Tote.” Some artists focused on the exterior of the bag, utilizing acrylic polymer to mimic cake decorations (Will Cotton), or ink in reference to tattooing (Dr. Lakra), while others like Jenny Holzer restricted their changes to the interior, simply engraving the phrase “Protect me from what I want” repeatedly into the lining of the bag.
These priceless works of art are available to preview on Paddle8, with online bidding accepted from noon EST on October 4th to October 18th. All bids will transfer over to the event on October 20th, which will be held at the home of Cindy & Howard Rachofsky in Dallas, Texas. Pick your favorites now and be ready for bidding to open on October 4th at 12pm EST!
