GREY AREA is considered to be an undefined space between art and design where art is made functional and the functional is made art. GREY AREA aims to push the boundaries of art and this is illustrated in their mission: “to present the best of what doesn’t quite fit within the traditional gallery experience.” GREY AREA does this through various mediums: highly-curated environments, their website, pop-up locations, and programmed happenings. Everything presented is out of the ordinary, and falls into art’s ‘grey area.’ GREY AREA represents an array of artists such as Andrea Mary Marshall, Anthony James, Daniel Newman, Ed Ruscha, Dustin Yellin, and Tracey Emin – to name a few!
On June 5th, Paddle8 had the opportunity to attend GREY AREA’s event hosted by Marlborough Chelsea and W Magazine, which presented new work from artist Rashaad Newsome, featured in the June issue of W Magazine. The party was set off by DJ VenusX and included vibrant performances by rappers A$AP NY-Nast and A$AP Ferg from A$AP MOB.
Rashaad Newsome lives and works in New York City. His work involves performance, photograph, collage, video, and sound. His mixed-media works examine the intersection of pop and subculture forms.
