Spotlight | Rita McBride

Rita McBride is an American artist living and working in Rome, Italy and Berlin, Germany. As an artist, she is committed to working with the language of sculpture. Over the last 25 years, Rita McBride’s work has yielded a variety of projects and objects that are unique, surprising and provocative. Her works combine found forms with unexpected dimensions and materials, creating exciting designs and architecture.

Represented by Paddle8 member gallery Alexander and Bonin in New York, her work challenges the role of public space and plays with the functionalism of public structures.

Her most recent sculpture, Mae West was unveiled in Munich, Germany in 2011. It is a 52 meter tall carbon steel sculpture located on the Effnerplatz.

Rita McBride’s work is currently the subject of the exhibition Oferta Publica/Public Tender at Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA). Check out her exhibition here and visit Alexander and Bonin on Paddle8 here!
