Capricious Magazine is a New York based publication dedicated to providing a solid platform for the work of emerging and underrepresented fine art photographers. The magazine aims to help these artists gain greater visibility and career opportunities. Founded by Swedish photographer Sophie Mörner in 2004, the magazine has helped promote the early work of artists like Hanna Liden, Ryan McGinley, Esther Teichmann, Nick Haymes, Olaf Breuning, Melanie Bonajo and Skye Parrott.
Capricious Magazine presented their first Benefit Auction on Paddle8 which featured works by both emerging and renowned artists, such as Sam Falls, Liz Magic Laser, Mariah Robertson, Martha Wilson, and Grant Worth – to name a few! Online bidding began May 21st and online bidding ended yesterday on Paddle8, and continued last night at the live auction event at Martos Gallery. The auction was held to raise funds supporting Capricious Magazine and its related curatorial projects, which have already aided hundreds of emerging fine art photographers and the issues their photographs bring to light.
Beer and chatter filled the gallery space as bids were placed on over 80 amazing pieces. Paddle8 was honored to host this auction and we are looking forward to next year’s!
Also be sure to check out more work by Sam Falls in our current editorial project “In the Gallery | May 25 – June 2” and available works from American Contemporary!
