Happening | MOCA FRESH: LA artists part 2

Closing bids for MOCA Fresh 2012 auction end tomorrow March 25th at noon EST, so be sure to view the over 200 established and emerging artists from around the globe, with a strong showing from the Los Angeles based artists. Paddle8 takes a closer look at Angelenos:
Brett Cody Rogers, Anthony Pearson represented by Marianne Boesky Gallery and David Kordansky, Rosson Crow represented by Honor Fraser, Mari Eastman represented by Cherry and Martin, and Geraldine Neuwirth.

In Rift (2010), Rogers continues his study of geometric abstractions and flattened painterly forms in a black and white photograph. Rogers previously created the Paddle8 and Phaidon booth at Art Los Angeles Contemporary.  Also working in abstraction is Anthony Pearson whose Untitled (Flare) (2012) is a result of light leaks in the artist’s camera. Marianne Boesky Gallery showed a similar Pearson work  from the same series in their booth at the Armory Show this year. (See the work on Marianne Boesky’s Paddle8 page)

Paintings and drawings featured include a small, vivid and sensual assortment of reds seen in Rosson Crow’s Land of Plenty (2012), a large-scale study of tribal shapes by Geraldine Neuwirth, in Untitled (2010) and an ominous image of birds rendered in flashe, oil and glitter on canvas work entitled Seabirds (2008), by Mari Eastman.
