Spotlight Designer | Uhuru + Paddle8′s Armory Show 2012 Booth

In the past few weeks, we have had the fortune to work with the furniture design visionaries of Uhuru, first for Paddle8′s Nordic Focus companion editorial to the Armory Show 2012, and more recently to help furnish our booth in Pier 94.

Based in Red Hook, Brooklyn, the contemporary furniture creators of Uhuru describe their own practice as informed by Shaker sensibilities, merging beauty with utility. There is an additional innovative dimension to their work: the objects they create are all hand-crafted from repurposed and recycled materials. The Boardwalk Console seen in the images was constructed of actual wood reclaimed from the iconic Coney Island Boardwalk.  Each piece is crafted with an eye towards avant-garde design, and is also environmentally sustainable and one-of-a-kind.

Uhuru has previously extended its unique vision in collaborations with a range of organizations and artists including the Phaidon Store; the New Museum and City Bakery; Maya Lin for the Cooper Hewitt; and Dan Colen at Gagosian Gallery.

Make sure to come see the booth for yourself! Visit us this weekend in the VIP Lounge in Pier 94.
