Just last week, Paddle8 visited galleries throughout Europe. Be sure to plan a visit if you are in any of these European cities!
Featured in her second solo exhibition with Galerie Max Hetzler, Berlin based artist Monica Bonvicini presents a series of large-scale installations and drawings. Entitled NeedleKnows, Bonvicini’s latest body of work revisits some of the themes that have become emblematic of her practice in the last decade, namely those that explore specific conventions and investigate the relationship between space, power and gender. Bovincini uses traditionally ‘masculine’ materials, such as glass, polished steel, and leather, and transforms them into phrases or idioms, underscored by her accompanying words and titles.
Also in Berlin, new works by Jutta Pohlmann and Dirk von Lowtzow are on view in In the tittery, their second solo exhibition with Galerie Cinzia Friedlaender. The interdisciplinary exhibition’s works share a common use of a dog motif, as seen in a series of drawings on musical manuscript paper from composers Henry Purcell, Heinrich Schutz and Deitrich Buxethude. Ranging in a variety of emotions, the artists lend the composers the expressiveness of dogs – squinting boredom yet dominationg, exhausted and resigned, alert but desperate.
Jutta Pohlmann and Dirk von Lowtzow runs til March 31st at Galerie Friedlaender.
Monica Bonvicini is currently on view through April 14th at Galerie Max Hetzler.
