The press release for Øystein Aasan’s “Solo Show” at PSM Gallery cites this Barnett Newman quote as the source for his series of works based on the rasterizing element of the grid. The artist paints grids as a way to sort and collage historical images and text documents. The paintings are mounted within “display units” which frame the work in a way that multiplies the formal element of the grid.
