Paddle8 is very proud to be able to present NADA Miami Beach 2011 online! Over the next couple of days, we will feature some of the artists and galleries participating in our collaboration with NADA.
Since opening in 2007, the Toronto based gallery MKG127 has shown an impressive array of Canadian artists. MKG127′s diverse ensemble includes visual artist Dean Drever. Drever’s recent exhibition Black & White, is a myriad of an ongoing commentary of contemporary society. He takes the title of the exhibition both literally and metaphorically creating a collection of black and white graphic prints .
Some works use imagery borrowed from the visual language of industrialization, seamanship, aviation, and flag symbols, (Judas Priest (2011), Iron Maiden (2011), and Anthrax (2011), respectively). In Motley Crue (2011), Drever places the oil on lacquer canvases as an ensemble; the works then come together like puzzle pieces or angular shapes on an abstracted map. , Drever draws from our cultural heritage and our shared iconography, but the forms are so stripped down that they move away from representation to abstraction.
